A pet donkey that escaped his homeowners 5 years in the past in California has been discovered “residing his finest life” with a herd of untamed elk.
Terrie and Dave Drewry, of Auburn, are satisfied the animal, filmed by a hiker earlier in June, is their pet “Diesel”.
The couple say they’re relieved the animal is secure – and have determined to let him wander free with a brand new household as a “wild burro” .
Diesel was spooked and took off throughout a mountain climbing journey with Mr Drewry close to Clear Lake, California in 2019.
Weeks of volunteer searches proved fruitless, and a path digital camera picture just a few months later was the final time he was seen.
“We lastly type of gave up,” Mrs Drewry instructed BBC’s information associate, CBS. “Simply no indicators of him.”
Then hiker Max Fennell noticed the herd earlier this month, describing the donkey as “completely satisfied and wholesome”, and posted his movie on social media.
“It was superb. It was like, oh my gosh. Lastly, we noticed him. Lastly, we all know he is good. He is residing his finest life. He is completely satisfied. He is wholesome, and it was only a reduction,” Mrs Drewery mentioned.
The elk herd is just a few miles away from the place Diesel first went lacking and in an space the place there aren’t any wild donkeys.
“Two utterly completely different creatures, however they study to get alongside and be one another’s household,” Mrs Drewry mentioned.
The Drewrys have adopted new donkeys since Diesel’s disappearance and don’t plan on attempting to seize their lacking pet.

She mentioned Diesel is about eight years outdated and donkeys can stay for as much as 40 years.
